Join Steamrail Victoria aboard The Vintage Train to celebrate its 60th anniversary, with an evening tour to the original destination - the seaside town of Mornington. Departing Newport at 4:31 PM and Flinders Street at 4:58 PM, the train will head through Melbourne's Southeastern Suburbs and along Port Phillip Bay towards Frankston. Passing over the recently constructed viaducts, take in the evening views across the beaches of Parkdale, Mordialloc and Carrum. After a quick stop in Frankston to let the Long Island steel train pass, you will continue onto the Stony Point line, which now rarely sees steam. Passing through the lush hills of the Mornington Peninsula, the train will traverse what feels like a country branchline, only an hour from the city. With the Mornington Line closing in 1981, the mainline train can no longer head to the seaside. Arriving into Somerville at 6:39pm, passengers will disembark with an option to either spend an evening here, or board road coaches for a short transfer to the centre of Mornington. Returning to the train at Somerville after an evening on the Mornington Peninsula, you will board the train at 9:15 PM and have an express run North back to Melbourne. Arriving at Flinders Street at 10:39 PM and Newport at 11:06 PM, you will finish a memorable celebration onboard The Vintage Train.
